BIA supports property tax rebate for new construction extension in Moorhead, resources for Election Day and news from NAHB

BIA-RRV provides letter of support for Make Moorhead Home Property Tax Rebate Extension

The Make Moorhead Home property tax rebate for new residential construction is reviewed for extension every two years by the Moorhead City Council, Moorhead Area Public Schools Board, and Clay County Commission.

The Building Industry Association of the RRV supports the program because it helps individuals pursue homeownership, encourages new residential construction to meet the community's need for diverse housing options, and helps ease financial burdens at a time when costs continue to rise.

The Moorhead City Council voted to extend the program for another two years. The county commission and school board will vote on the program at their meetings in November

Fargo shares seasonal consideration notice for contractors

Please pull all street side BMPs Nov. 1, each year to ensure unobstructed and safe snow removal operations. This includes removing construction entrances that are encroaching the street. Any inlet protection or temporary driveways still in place by Nov. 15 will be considered a violation, unless approved by ESC Staff.

BMPs and Freeze-up

Managing your site under freezing or thawing conditions can be simple and inexpensive. Consider moving fiber rolls to midpoint on the boulevard or private side of the sidewalk. Manage the inlet protection with a quick to remove BMP like a rock or compost log – any device that can be easily removed if frozen. The seasonal BMP application can work for both fall and spring runoff protection. Remember to give a final BMP maintenance check around November 1st.

Points to keep in mind:

  • Pull street side BMPs by November 1st each year.
  • Remove construction entrances that are encroaching the street.
  • Regardless of the month or temperature you are responsible for what comes off the site.

Whenever spring thaw takes place - street-side BMPs must be replaced.

News from NAHB: Senate introduces landmark permitting reform bill

After the Nov. 3 election, it's anticipated that the Senate will consider a bipartisan bill, titled the Bipartisan American Affordability and Jobs Act.

The main items it would address are

  • reducing land development costs and delays, leading to more affordable lots at a quicker pace and less expensive federal permits.
  • For multifamily builders, it would improve access to federal housing finance programs and reduce costs and delays of environmental reviews for certain funding.

The National Association of Home Builders encourages support of the bill. To learn more, click here.
