Mental Health in the Workplace/Building Industry

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2021, the construction industry had the second-highest rate of suicide among its workers. Fifty-six out of every 100,000 male construction workers died by suicide in 2021, compared to 32 per 100,000 male workers in all industries. This rate was roughly four times the national average and almost six times the rate of all construction fatalities combined.

In this course we will go over:

• Understanding mental health challenges in workplaces and how they affect us,
• Recognizing signs and symptoms of mental health challenges in ourselves and others,
• Actions we can take when mental health challenges occur, and how we can help ourselves and others who are struggling.

Cost is $20 and includes lunch. In-person and virtual attendance available. A recording will be available for purchase and sent after the session.

Meet the instructor:

Brian Lauwers, CHST has worked within the construction industry for over 20 years, mainly in commercial construction. Currently he is the Regional Manager for the Dakotas Region and is responsible for providing construction safety services and association outreach.
