The instructor will teach virtually; if preferred, you can attend in person at our building to watch the class together.

A fully in-person session will be offered in January.

TOPICS

The following topics are pending approval for 7 credits by the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry (includes energy and business management credits).

Topics slated to include:

  • National Model Code changes that affect residential construction, particularly
    • Decks and ledgers with flashing, water resistive barrier and cladding interfaces
    • Energy efficiency requirements from Ch. 11 and how to prepare crews and trade partners
    • Appendix BC accessory dwelling units and what adoption will mean for small projects
    • Masonry foundation requirements and field focused details
  • Required homeowner documents under MN Statute 326B.809
  • Statutory warranty in 327A and how to align subcontractor obligations
  • Using manufacturer installation instructions and trade standards to pass inspections

More about the instructor: 

Greg Olson, Professional Education Resources, LLC, holds multiple professional credentials in construction and building code administration. He is a licensed MN Building Official and is certified for code administration on residential structures and accessible facilities. Olson also holds qualifying builder licenses in both Minnesota and Nebraska and is a certified Continuing Education Provider in Minnesota and Wisconsin, authorized to train contractors and building officials. Olson earned a bachelor of science in education from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and is based in Red Wing, M.N.
