More details on the Spike Club

Over the course of the last couple of months, we have been awarding and recognizing some of our most dedicated members, known as Spikes, with their Spike Club pins from gaining spike credits. Now, you may be asking yourself...

Q: "What is a Spike?"

A: "A Spike is a member of a local association who recruits new members to join the National Association of Home Builders."

Q: "What is the Spike Club?"

A: "The NAHB Spike Club was formed in 1953 to recognize and reward dedicated members that work to recruit and retain members."

Q: "What is the significance behind the Spike Club?"

A: "It encourages industry professionals to get involved with their associations' membership and development. In turn, members who work to become Spikes play a significant role in maintaining the stability of the association and fuel the voice of NAHB in the building industry."

Q: "How does it all work?"

A: "As a Spike candidate continues to recruit as well as retain other members, that member accumulates spike credits and therefore achieves different levels of recognition for their efforts over time. After a total of 6 credits are earned, that member officially becomes a member of the Spike Club. See how you are able to accumulate spike credits below."

  • 1 credit earned for each new builder or associate member you recruit
  • 1 credit earned on the first anniversary of each new member you recruited
  • 1/2 of a credit earned for each anniversary that follows for each of those members
  • 1/2 of a credit earned for recruiting council members to their local association

Additionally, there are certain levels a Spike can be at:

  • 1 to 5.5 credits: Spike Candidate
  • 6 to 24.5 credits: Spike Club member
  • 25+ credits: Life Spike
  • 100-149 credits: Red Spike
  • 150-249 credits: Royal Spike
  • 250-499 credits: Super Spike
  • 500-999 credits: Statesman Spike
  • 1,000-1,499 credits: Grand Spike
  • 1,500+ credits: All-Time Big Spike
