Sheldon Poss, Poss Woodworks & Design, to retire

Fun Facts Retirement

In 1986, at the age of 25, Sheldon had already been working in the cabinet industry for 5 years. He decided to go on his own and Poss Cabinets was started.  He rented a building space from a local homebuilder in north Moorhead that was once an old chicken coop.  In 1991, he moved to a larger shop space in Fargo.  Sheldon started out as a 1-man shop, adding 1-2 guys as demand for his product increased, eventually growing to a team of 10-12.  Initially, Sheldon would meet his clients in his "show space" at his home until moving into his first showroom/office space in 2007. Poss Cabinets was incorporated into Poss Custom Cabinets in 1999 and rebranded to Poss Woodworks & Design in 2017.  Sheldon joined then-Home Builders Association in 1992.

Sheldon and Phyllis' three sons, Taylor, Landon, and Noah, grew up working in the family business at one time or another, with Taylor staying on permanently and running the finish shop. Phyllis was always involved with the business, meeting with clients before adding a design specialist in 2017 and continued with all bookkeeping duties.

The current focus for Poss Woodworks & Design is providing premium custom cabinetry for every room in the house. There have been tremendous changes over the years in what clients are looking for in the design and color of their cabinetry, with endless options. Sheldon, Phyllis and the entire Poss team are extend their appreciation for the opportunity to work with contractors, suppliers and fellow those in the trades industry and last but not least the clients over the years and to have built a trusting relationship. Sheldon and Phyllis wrote,

" We have had the privilege of doing what we love and working with the best. Poss Woodworks & Design want to thank you … our clients… for putting your trust in Sheldon and his team and allowing us to have our cabinets displayed throughout your homes. We will be forever grateful for this community and supporting our business the past 38 years."

Sheldon will definitely need to stay busy. He is looking forward to lake projects, putting his sawmill to use and doing more hunting and fishing.  Sheldon and Phyllis plan to travel more, spend more time with family, and most likely will be on call for their sons’ projects.

When asked what the HBA/BIA membership has meant to them over the years, they wrote,

"Being a member of the HBA/BIA has allowed us to connect with others in the building industry."

Poss Woodworks & Design has partnered with Bayer Interior Woods out of Sauk Center for any future cabinet jobs. There will be an online auction at the end of March that will include all equipment, some vehicles, and trailers. The showroom and shop space will be available for lease this Spring.
